I’ve said this before but it’s really something to realize that “a little girl rescues her brother from hell and the two are relentlessly stalked by the devil for the rest of their lives” was the actual storyline of this show:
Yeah guys it was the original pilot episode. He even called himself “The Devil” and had a Cerberus sidekick and dragged Chicken to hell for the sin of Smoking, but Cow put on her Supercow costume, beat the shit out of Satan and saved her brother.
When it came time to do the full series they suddenly weren’t allowed to call him “the devil” or allude to anything demonic so they just called him “the red guy” but “unofficially” he was always still the devil according to the creator.
Of course, there are episodes in which he’s barely even antagonistic, sometimes outright helpful. There’s also episodes where we see more than one of him at the same time, and he almost always seems to be so into his “disguise” that he, and everyone around him, genuinely believe he’s just that weird lunchlady or mailman or judge who happens to be red and pantsless.
So I guess we can construe that, as the manifestation of all evil, Satan transcends time and space and can become anyone at any time but even they don’t really know it. The only commonality is that these guises have an insatiable drive to cause chaos and confusion and ESPECIALLY fucking hate that one kid who’s also a chicken.
Even you could be the devil and you’ll never know it.
Not unless you meet the chicken boy. The sign. The awakening of who you are. Who you always were. The dark truth.
