The funny thing about One Piece is that you can’t just be a ‘casual’ one piece fan.
You can’t be like “oh yeah I watched it but I’m not really in the fandom”, or “I saw the first season might check out the next”, there can’t be any, “play it on the background on occasion, like it, not that invested.”
Because, bitch, did I watch well over 700 episodes?
You bet your ass I did.
And now I gotta do something with it. You’re either 0 or 100 with One Piece, because if you put in the effort, if at any point in time you made the conscious choice to catch up, you’re in for life. That’s too much commitment, too much time to just be wasted on ‘casual’.
I’ve watched 700 episodes, and now I’m stuck. For better or for worse it’s ride or die with the Pirate King now dammit.

One thing I like about One Piece is how I don’t believe Luffy will be the Pirate King because he is the protagonist, I believe he’ll be the Pirate King because he is Luffy.
