At 8:29 AM today, November 30th, we were hit with a very intense earthquake. Over two hours later, we are still experiencing after shocks.
I’m going to cover a few things that should help.
• When you have power, fill up as many containers with water as possible. If it goes out again, you won’t be able to access water. Fill bathtubs, buckets, etc.
• First Responders are trying their best to help you if you need it. There are roads collapsed and some buildings need more attention first to assure their safety.
• Drive carefully and notice your surroundings. If the stoplights are out, treat every intersection as if it’s a four way stop.
• Be wary of glass. Walk with shoes on until you’re sure you’ve cleaned it all up or at least made it safe to walk in.
• Keep your refrigerator and freezers closed as much as possible until the power comes back on.
• Do checks for your gas lines to make sure hey haven’t been damaged.
It’s a scary experience and it’s reasonable to be scared, but don’t panic!
If anyone has any resources and tips, please feel free to add!
Please Reblog and share as much as possible to help out us Alaskan folks! Reblogs will help way more than likes.
hi, welcome to the united fucking states, how may we discriminate you?
Everyone needs to see this. We can’t just let them discriminate against us, we have rights and we should fight for them. Our government is actively trying to push down minorities and no one is talking about it. This affects me and many of my friends. This could affect you or a friend you have. Even if this doesnt affect you, SPREAD THIS INFORMATION AND BE AN ALLY. We’re not gonna live in a broken country where freedom and equality is preached but only certain groups have those rights to equality and liberty. We shouldn’t have to live in fear of what human right our government is gonna strip away from us next. Please spread this.
“Next Tuesday, McDonald’s workers at restaurants in 10 cities will walk off the job at lunch, waging the first-ever nationwide strike to combat sexual harassment.”
As some of you may know, theres a map “””pride””” flag going around
What sucks more than pedophiles claiming to be lgbt is that lgbt pedos are mixing this flag with other identities. Heres the problem, besides the fact they are celebrating pedophilia and dragging the lgbt+ community down with them, the lesbian map flag has this color scheme
Look familiar to any one? That’s because its very similar to the nonbinary lesbian pride flag
The hues are slightly different and theres no white stripe in the nonbinary lesbian flag All i want yall to know is to be careful. Try to learn the differences so that innocent nonbinary lesbians arent accused of being pedos. If you have the nb lesbian flag in your icon do whatever you see fit to handle this (change it, keep it, this, that, etc. it’s your choice). Just a little psa for everyone out there so that you know whos what out there.
On June 20, the EU’s legislative committee will vote on the new Copyright directive,
and decide whether it will include the controversial “Article 13”
(automated censorship of anything an algorithm identifies as a copyright
violation) and “Article 11” (no linking to news stories without paid
permission from the site).
These proposals will make starting new internet companies effectively
impossible – Google, Facebook, Twitter, Apple, and the other US giants
will be able to negotiate favourable rates and build out the
infrastructure to comply with these proposals, but no one else will. The
EU’s regional tech success stories – say Seznam.cz,
a successful Czech search competitor to Google – don’t have
$60-100,000,000 lying around to build out their filters, and lack the
leverage to extract favorable linking licenses from news sites.
If Articles 11 and 13 pass, American companies will be in charge of
Europe’s conversations, deciding which photos and tweets and videos can
be seen by the public, and who may speak.
The MEP Julia Reda has written up the state of play
on the vote, and it’s very bad. Both left- and right-wing parties have
backed this proposal, including (incredibly) the French Front National,
whose Youtube channel was just deleted by a copyright filter of the sort they’re about to vote to universalise.
So far, the focus in the debate has been on the intended consequences of
the proposals: the idea that a certain amount of free expression and
competition must be sacrificed to enable rightsholders to force Google
and Facebook to share their profits.
But the unintended – and utterly foreseeable – consequences are even
more important. Article 11’s link tax allows news sites to decide who
gets to link to them, meaning that they can exclude their critics. With
election cycles dominated by hoaxes and fake news, the right of a news
publisher to decide who gets to criticise it is carte blanche to lie and
spin.
Article 13’s copyright filters are even more vulnerable to attack: the proposals contain no penalties for false claims of copyright ownership, but they do
mandate that the filters must accept copyright claims in bulk, allowing
rightsholders to upload millions of works at once in order to claim
their copyright and prevent anyone from posting them.
That opens the doors to all kinds of attacks. The obvious one is that
trolls might sow mischief by uploading millions of works they don’t hold
the copyright to, in order to prevent others from quoting them: the
works of Shakespeare, say, or everything ever posted to Wikipedia, or my
novels, or your family photos.
More insidious is the possibility of targeted strikes during crisis:
stock-market manipulators could use bots to claim copyright over news
about a company, suppressing its sharing on social media; political
actors could suppress key articles during referendums or elections;
corrupt governments could use arms-length trolls to falsely claim
ownership of footage of human rights abuses.
It’s asymmetric warfare: falsely claiming a copyright will be easy
(because the rightsholders who want this system will not tolerate
jumping through hoops to make their claims) and instant (because
rightsholders won’t tolerate delays when their new releases are being
shared online at their moment of peak popularity). Removing a false
claim of copyright will require that a human at an internet giant looks
at it, sleuths out the truth of the ownership of the work, and adjusts
the database – for millions of works at once. Bots will be able to
pollute the copyright databases much faster than humans could possibly
clear it.
I spoke with Wired UK’s KG Orphanides about this, and their excellent article
on the proposal is the best explanation I’ve seen of the uses of these
copyright filters to create unstoppable disinformation campaigns.
There’s pretty detailed information about the law from the above-mentioned Julia Reda here.
This site gives info on the 10 remaining ‘undecided’ MEPs, and contact information. (Oddly, it seems to be a different list from this other set of undecided MEPs on the committee.) I don’t get the impression any MEPs outside the Legal Affairs committee have any influence at this point in the legal process.
There’s a gadget on this page that will apparently identify your MEP and set up a call between your phone number and them.
I admit I’m not sure what I can say that would make the Conservative MEP ‘representing’ me prioritise things like artistic expression and access over the wealth of giant tech and media companies, but I can try.
Sorry for this random ass post, but I just had to make something clear, after being informed a hella lot
You can still go on the internet, even after Net Neutrality is repealed
We can still fight back, and get Net Neutrality restored, and the next vote for the House of Representatives is in a few weeks if I am correct
You may not see the effects tomorrow, but very slowly, the effects will kick-in very, very slowly that we won’t be able to see it overtime (Keep your eyes open if you see anything related to the effects)
Net Neutrality is still here, it’s just dying very, VERY slowly overtime
uh guys please i beg u if u have the choice DO NOT INSTALL THE LATEST WINDOWS UPDATE theres a good chance itll destroy your pc
here’s some info on what it may do to your computer and here are some potential ways to fix it
just to date this post, the above articles are from may 23, 2018 and may 24, 2018, respectively. this is still going on, and as of these dates microsoft has not found a fix. here’s another article from may 24, 2018 that describes the problem and links to a list of ways to delay getting the update until they patch it.
sometimes old posts about bad pc updates circulate on this site months or even years after they’re defunct, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE TIMES!!! please be careful guys, there are reports of machines being bricked by this update 😦
I’ve changed my Tumblr icon to show I support Net Neutrality; it will stay my icon for as long as possible. We need to spread the fact that if we don’t save it by June 11th, it will all end…
SPREAD AWARENESS! CALL YOUR SENATORS! Do whatever it takes! Together, we can safe a free Internet!
There is a site called Gramunion that takes every single image posted to every single blog on this website and reposts it to its website, removing the original context of the images, including artist’s notes, requests to not repost artwork, and so on. The website does this as a way of “helping” you “Browse Any Tumblr Blog In a Structured Way!” (to quote their website).
We can all agree that this is garbage, right?
As a result of this website’s existence, I’m seeing more artwork posted to Pinterest and other websites, using Gramunion as the source.
I’d like to see if something can be done. Because no matter how many DMCA takedown notices I send to Pinterest, there will always be idiots who get my artwork again and again from Gramunion. I don’t want that, I’m pretty sure no-one else wants that for their artwork, so what can we do?
I think using this guide here we can send DMCA takedown notices to the website to get our art taken down. Here’s what the website says:
Let’s assume “Phil” sees his 1,500-word blog post republished on a
forum. His first step would be to issue a DMCA takedown notice to the DMCA agent
of the forum letting them know of the infringement. If the forum does
not take down the content, Phil would look up the hosting service for
the site using a “Who Is” domain search, and serve a takedown notice on
that company as well. Finally, Phil would serve notices on Google,
Yahoo, and Bing. If all parties comply with the notice, the offending
page would be removed by the host and delisted in the search engines.
The website also provides an easy-to-use template for sending a takedown notice. Seriously, it’ll take you about two minutes to fill out, if that.
I sent a DMCA takedown to Gramunion itself first. I tried looking up the “Who Is” stuff for the site, and it led to a site called “Name.com,” which would be the next stop if Gramunion refuses to respond to my request. (I sent Gramunion an email already last week, and they refused to respond.) I’ll keep you posted on how this goes.
If you’re serious about keeping people from stealing your artwork, then I highly recommend you join me in sending takedown notices to this website. Maybe we can eventually get it shut down.
So I checked Gramunion and it’s kind of uncomfortable. First of all, they have no permission whatsoever to repost Tumblr content. I searched if Gramunion is associated with Tumblr, there is none. Gramunion is only powered by Tumblr or in layman’s terms, they’re using a Tumblr theme.
Whatever the text is below the image (for example, link to the artist’s official website, support patreon, etc.) is cut out, allowing their art to be spread in other websites without actual credit to the artist.
Check if your art is in there and report if you must. Warn your favorite artists too if they don’t like their works reposted (unless they sign/watermark their works, but even that can be cropped out).
I already reported it in Tumblr (which you can do too, https://www.tumblr.com/support). But it would be nice to give them a heads up that one of the blogs using their themes are screwing with Tumblr artists and calling it “helping”.
Take this atrocity down, one report/reblog at a time.
